Jul. 10th, 2012 @ 09:33 pm They're back.....or bats in the belfrey
Tags:

Well confirmed that we have tenants again: there are bats living in our house fascia. We had them when moved in and now they are back. Our neighbourhood has a history of this and they go from house to house. Now they are not in our attic as our house is unusual in that the walls go up and touch the roof. Thank god i watch Billy the Exterminator

What damage do they cause? Not that having bats in my belfry is my idea of a dream life, but I've heard they're beneficial because they eat so many insects.

They make a mess basically and if in your attic you can get piss and shit leaking through the drywall. They are good but messy. The best way to get rid of them is to put a loose net around where they come out as they cannot find their way back in. I estimate there are about 30 at most and they only need a 1/4 inch to get in.

Uhg! Now I understand why people get bat houses--as alternative housing for the poopers and pissers.

Easy enough, these bats have been roaming the neighbourhood and go from house to house. A little plastic netting a la Billy the Exterminator will take care of it.

Aaw, bats. Can't you just put plastic sheets down and refresh them?

I honestly want to keep them around, but they need to find a new roost is all. I like the critters and none will be harmed in the re-location.

Hmm, I think there's special nesting boxes you could buy and install? Maybe a local bat rescue knows more.

There are but it would be hard for me to set them up in the right location as it needs to be around 20 feet off the ground and pointing south. The hard part is getting a post to sit 20 feet in the air.

There was a bat plague in a church in front of my flat, and they broke in to the apartments--I wasn't in the building yet, but I heard it happened.

AND, funny thing, my dad told me you can't kill bats in Chile--why? I have no idea, they are like rats and carry diseases and stuff... and if they are swimming in your bathtub... I'd just go Billy the Exterminator on them xD
